Ginger and Fred dancing in a hay loft
Speyside, Lossie
The nose evoked someone in leather brogues dancing in a hay loft while sucking Edinburgh Rock and mint humbugs. The primary palate impression was of delightful tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, passion-fruit, monstera, rhubarb rock) with Black Forest gateau, marzipan and dark chocolate; tremulous tingles of pickled ginger, pepper and chilli inhabited the after-taste. The reduced nose gave us lemon sorbet, violet creams, Turkish Delight and the ladies floor in an up-market department store. The palate was now a cross between Eton Mess (strawberries, meringue, cream) and trail mix (dried pineapple, papaya, apricot and coconut); finished off with gently teasing crystallised ginger.
